Cabin 34 Roubaix

The first running of the cabin 34 Roubaix was a very memorable affair. We got girled! The race started under a blue sky with light winds. The pack rolled out slowly and socialized while Buggie and Jen went out on the attack. We joked around in the pack and figured we would just let them dangle off the front of the group. By the time we got done with all the social commentary the breakaway was no where to be seen. The chase was now on! Then, mechanicals started in the peleton. Bill was struck first and then Jack flatted, twice, on one of the pave' sections of the course. Meanwhile, Buggie was hammering up the first rollers with Jenn. The pack kinda fell apart so I started to bridge up to the attackers. I could see buggie in the distance and gradually reeled him in, but Jenn stayed off the front for good! Congrats!Official results:

The Mud, The Blood, and The Beer

The 5th running of the Dawn til dusk was a rather memorable affair despite the less than ideal conditions. It would have been a great day for duck hunting or cyclocross, but not so good for a endurance race. So, based on the weather conditions every participant will now have a DNS on their list of palmares. Only joking.

To start with Chad and Jenn rolled down from Lyons with plenty of Dale's Pale Ale and provided the BEER!!! Thanks so much!!!

Then, the environment provided the MUD. Kevin watched comfortably from the shelter of the Dale's tent with beer in hand. He is a wise old vet.

Finally, came the BLOOD with wide elbow, teeth gnashing, MTB barrel racing. In this pic we have Schafer taking full advantage of the Robin's draft while moving at a blistering pace of 4 mph.

Robin congratulates the winner

Then, in one way or the other, everyone got out of the mud.

I love this picture! If you look closely you will notice these folks have ripped the spoiler off of their little red res rocket. That is why all the onlookers are pointing while the unaware passenger is stoked to take photos of the crowd that is cheering them on..
It was a great weekend and the I did'nt hear any negative comments concerning the race cancellation. Maybe, thats because seven years of teaching ninth graders will make you oblivious to negative comments. Finally, thank you Chad, Jenn, Robin, and Schafar for making the drive. Thanks to everyone involved in organizing and cleaning up the D2D 09! And a special thanks goes out to whoever dug my camera out of the mud, the blood, and the beer. Oops, almost forgot Johnny Cash--- thanks man.

Im a Lance Hater!

Armstrong had the broken collarbone coming! He sat out of racing for 3 years when he should have given back to the team that served him for seven years. b The 1992 Tour de France was one of my favorites. There were 4 former Tour winners riding, arguably, as domestics for their captains. Laurent Fignon, Stephen Roche, Pedro Delgado, and Lemond were all there giving back to their teams. And what did Lance do? He chased celebrity ass around for three years--classy.

Cable Surfin'

I hear cable surfing is all the rage in Europe. The European disdain for personal hygiene must free up a lot of time.

The Old Days

The first time I saw the Tour de France was on TV in 1987. CBS managed to cram a 3 week race in 3, 60 min segments. Looking back that was one of my favorite Tours. The way Steven Roche climbed the L'Alpe-D'Huez was unforgettable! He climbed his way back to Pedro Delgado, who attached earlier, and left the mountain in an ambulance due to oxygen debt. He didn't pull on the "golden fleece" that day but he managed to get himself into position to take the win in the Time Trial. On that day L'Ape-D'Huez lived up to the hype. Roche had a amazing year in 1987. He won the Giro, the Tour, and the Worlds.
